For a long time, my inspiration for women’s resistance has been witches—archetypes of rebellious women, historical figures who rose against patriarchal dogmas, religions misogynistic laws and violence. Mass-murdered, yet a universal and lasting symbol of defiance.

Witches were just women. Women that patriarchal power—and each man who chose to enforce it—made examples of. Tortured and murdered to instil fear and obedience.

The cultural void left by the slaughter of our mothers is unfathomable. The psychological scars, the generational trauma, the colonial violence of centuries of witch-hunts—are vastly unacknowledged, misunderstood and underestimated. And yet, here we stand. Women have always resisted. Women will always resist.

Each generation before and after us will rise. Each one of us who dares to defy will be a witch—the non-compliant, the feared, the woman patriarchy must demonise and silence.

At the peak of the gender war, TERF is the new witch. A word wielded to scare, divide, and silence us.

It has failed.

We reclaimed the title—with pride, with power, with fury.

Here is a gang of us. Threatening, unapologetic, unbowed. A homage to all the women who fight back past, present and future.
