I Wish I Was A Lesbian – Interview with Francine Sporenda

Last week, French feminist writer Francine Sporenda published a long interview with me on WordPress.

We discussed the growing number of women who are stepping away from heterosexuality, marriage, and motherhood. From the influence of social media and women’s shared experiences, to the realities of domestic labour, emotional exploitation, and male violence, we explored why increasing numbers of women are questioning assumptions that once seemed unquestionable.

We also talked about compulsory heterosexuality: how difficult it can be to recognise heterosexuality not simply as a sexual orientation, but as a political institution that shapes women’s lives from childhood. The conversation examines the ways heterosexuality is normalised and enforced, and why challenging it often requires a profound process of unlearning.

The interview further explores feminist debates around love, sexual orientation, political lesbianism, women’s autonomy, and the possibilities that emerge when women begin to centre themselves rather than organising their lives around men.

I’ve shared the full interview below for anyone interested in these questions and in the broader conversation about women’s liberation, independence, and the future of feminism.
